Allahabad: Former Union petroleum minister Satya Prakash Malaviya died at a private hospital in Delhi early Sunday. He was 84. Malaviya was suffering from prostate cancer. He is survived by a daughter. His wife had passed away four years ago. Born at Malviyanagar in the city of Allahabad, the former Union minister was jailed for 18 months during Emergency. Malaviya has served as the petroleum minister in the cabinet headed by former prime minister Chandra Shekhar. PTI 

UP college tonsures heads of students; parents seek action

Muzaffarnagar: Angry parents and their wards took to streets at Shahpur town after a college here ordered tonsuring the heads of its students, officials said Sunday. Many students and their parents blocked the Budhana-Muzaffarnagar road on Saturday, demanding action against Rashtriya Inter College whose authorities tonsured the heads of hundreds of its students recently, Sub-divisional Magistrate Bhupender Kumar said. A disciplinary action has been initiated against college principal Virender Singh. PTI

2 minor boys sexually abused in Maha school; three held

Mumbai: The 42-year-old director of a vedic school in Maharashtra’s Parbhani district was arrested and two juvenile students were detained for the alleged assault and ragging of two other minor students, the police said Sunday. The victims, ageed between nine and 10, were allegedly ragged and their private parts tied with ‘manja’ (string) by the accused, Parbhani's DSP Sanjay Pardeshi said. The boys had complained to Ganesh Ved Pathshala director Sudhir Kulkarni, but their pleas were disregarded, the police said. It was found during the probe that the Ved Pathshala was running illegally. PTI
