Delhi to have 19 ''pink'' polling booths

NEW DELHI: Ahead of the next month’s Lok Sabha election in Delhi, the city’s election authorities have already earmarked 19 pink polling booths—comprising all women staff and one polling booth with entire staff being people with disabilities (PwD) in North East Delhi area.

Ahead of the next month’s Lok Sabha election in Delhi, the city’s election authorities have already earmarked 19 pink polling booths—comprising all women staff and one polling booth with entire staff being people with disabilities (PwD) in North East Delhi area.

Delhi has a total of 70 model polling stations— one each in 70 Assembly constituencies and a polling booth— Leprosy Home Complex— in Tahirpur will have all PwD voters.

Delhi will vote for all seven of its Lok Sabha seats in the sixth phase on May 12. Votes will be counted on May 23.

Data shared by Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ranbir Singh on Wednesday showed that around 57,501 people were booked, and 385 unlicensed arms and 2,482 cartridges seized in the national capital under various sections of CrPC and Delhi Police Act since the model code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections came into force on March 10.

A total of 765 FIRs have been registered under Excise Act in which 762 people have already been arrested. Nearly 275 FIRs have been registered under Arms Act, in which 317 persons were arrested and 266.276 Kg. narcotics/drugs was seized.A total of 2,88,024 hoardings and posters have been removed across the national capital—30,533 from areas under New Delhi Municipal Council, 43,075 under East Delhi Municipal Corporation, 2,411 under Delhi Cantonment Board, 1,13,662 under South Delhi Municipal Corporation, and 98,343 in areas under North Delhi Municipal Corporation.

Of 37 FIRs/ DD entries lodged for violation of model code of conduct to date, 15 are against AAP, 19 against BJP, 4 against Congress, one each against Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party, and 97 against under the head of others/non-political.

The Delhi electoral authorities have said the total number of eligible voters in the capital has increased to 1.41 crore—77,85,398 men, 63,60,234 women and 687 third gender voters along with 40 overseas electors as on date.

The commission has seized about 1.38 crore cash, and has registered 24 cases for misuse of vehicles, violation of loudspeakers, illegal meetings and gratification ion of electors, etc.
