Jaipur, March 31

A huge water reservoir-cum-dam, spread in about 2.5 km for potable water supply, was on Saturday breached causing flood-like situation in Malsisar and adjoining villages of Jhunjhunu district in Rajasthan.

No loss of human and cattle lives is reported so far, District Collector Dinesh Yadav said. A private firm, Nagaarjun Construction Company, has built and filled it with potable water through pipelines from Taranagar lift canal, the DM said. The company, which was on its trial and maintenance, was to hand over the constructed site to PHED department soon, but it was breached at a point and got damaged around 1:30 pm, he added.

The project was on a trial for two months. Flurry of breached water did enter into Malsisar’s houses but immediately the flow was diverted to other sandy areas and maintenance service was taken up by the company, Yadav said. — OC
