An alleged cattle smuggler suffered a bullet injury during a police chase at Geejgarh-chowki in Dausa district on Tuesday night. Five policemen were also injured after they were pelted with stones and bottles.

Igris, 40, was admitted to SMS Hospital, Jaipur, with a bullet injury in the face, while the injured policemen were given medical aid at a local hospital, said Dausa SP Chuna Ram.

Two vehicles ferrying cattle to Mahua failed to stop at police barricading at two places and the occupants pelted two pursuing police teams with stones and bottles. The police were then allegedly fired upon by the occupants, prompting retaliation by the cops around 10.30 pm, the SP said.

Igris, who was travelling in one of the trucks, was arrested, while two of his accomplices fled the scene. Another truck was reportedly intercepted at Mahua, the SP said.

Igris is wanted in over 10 cases of crime and cattle smuggling in Dausa and Alwar districts since 2012, when he allegedly mowed down a constable in Mahua, the SP said.

A case under various Sections the IPC and Arms Act have been registered. Liquor bottles and a gun were recovered from the truck used by Igris.

The Rajasthan Police were recently in news for gunning down an alleged cow smuggler in an encounter on the outskirts of Alwar city, when a group of men was spotted rounding up stray cattle and transporting them in a pick-up van.
