New Delhi, May 28

Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi today took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for celebrating at the India Gate when many parts of the country were reeling under drought.

“There is drought all over the country. Farmers are committing suicide, but Modiji is celebrating with Bollywood stars at India Gate,” Rahul said in his first public appearance since the Congress lost power in Assam and Kerala. He was addressing supporters in Delhi during a march to protest power and water crisis in Delhi.

He attacked both Modi and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal for practising a “politics of lies”.

The Gandhi scion, under attack for consistent electoral losses of the Congress since 2013, said his party did not indulge in public relations and believed in working for the people because it was rooted in the Gandhian ideology.

“My politics is based on Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology. I can never do politics of lies and false promises,” he said.

“Our party and party workers don’t do PR. They work for the people. We know how to provide electricity and water and work for the people. We will come to power again in Delhi,” Rahul, flanked by Delhi Congress chief Ajay Makan, said. Attacking Kejriwal, Rahul said, “Kejriwalji promised uninterrupted electricity and water, but forgot all these promises after coming to power.” — TNS
