The Congress on Wednesday decided to skip the meeting on ‘one nation one election’ issue Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair around 3 pm.

The Congress decision came after an understanding with like-minded parties.

The BSP, TMC and TDP have decided not to send representatives to the meeting.

BSP president Mayawati has used the occasion to target EVMs and warned of agitations supporting a return to paper ballots.

TMC chief Mamata Banerjee has written to the PM flagging the need for electoral reforms, state funding of elections and return to paper ballots.

TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu has been fighting a public war alleging possibilities of EVM-tampering.

It remains to be seen what stand the SP will take though all UPA allies are expected to bunk the PM’s meeting.

The PM has called the meeting of all political parties to stress ‘one nation one poll’ and has invited all MPs for dinner on Thursday.
