Cong declares 6 poll panels for UP

NEW DELHI:Close on the heels of the SP and BSP detailing their seat-sharing plan in UP, the Congress late on Saturday night announced six poll panels for the state, signalling their Lok Sabha election preparedness.

Close on the heels of the SP and BSP detailing their seat-sharing plan in UP, the Congress late on Saturday night announced six poll panels for the state, signalling their Lok Sabha election preparedness.

The committees approved by Congress chief Rahul Gandhi are state election committee, campaign commitee, coordination committee, manifesto committee, media panel, and election strategy committee.

UP Congress president Raj Babbar will chair the 33-member state poll committee, while the 21-member campaign committee will be chaired by Gajraj Singh and comprise among leaders PL Punia, RPN Singh and Rajaram Pal.

Former Congress spokesman Rashid Alvi will head the manifesto committee and ex-minister Rajiv Shukla will head the media panel.

Congress Legislature Party Leader Ajay Kumar Lallu has been named the chairperson of the coordination committee. The party has also approved a special five-member election strategy and planning committee.

It will consist of ex-minister Salman Khurshid, ex-state chief Nirmal Khatri, former MP Sanjay Singh, former CLP leader Pramod Tewari and former minister Ramlal Rahi.
