Come 2018, Internet for every household in Telangana: Rao

HYDERABAD:Telangana has embarked on an ambitious plan to provide broadband Internet connectivity to all households by December next year.

Telangana has embarked on an ambitious plan to provide broadband Internet connectivity to all households by December next year.

This was announced by state Information Technology Minister KT Rama Rao here while reviewing the works of the “Mission Bhageeratha”— a project aimed at providing drinking water connection to every household across the state.

Under the Digital Telangana project, optic fibre cables are being laid along water pipelines to provide broadband Internet connectivity to every household. “While the “Mission Bhageeratha” is proceeding as per schedule, there is a need to speed up the works to provide Internet connectivity,” Rao said.

The minister discussed with senior officials about the issues related to funds for the project, the financial assistance being provided by the Centre under the Bharat Net and also the money required from the state government. 

On this occasion, Vijaya Bank officials handed over to the minister the documents relating to the 

Rs 561-crore loan being provided by the bank to the Telangana Fibre Grid Corporation for the project. 

The minister said with Internet connection to every house, healthcare and education in rural areas will undergo major transformation. To showcase these changes before the world, a technology demonstration network in four villages of Maheswaram mandal near Hyderabad will be completed in the first week of January, a statement from the IT Minister’s office said. 

In another development, the IT Minister took to the social media to celebrate a milestone for the state, with regard to the e-governance platform “MeeSeva”.
