The Congress today held the UP Government “responsible” for the infants’ death at a state-run hospital in Gorakhpur, demanding the resignation of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and a probe by a Supreme Court judge.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who visited Baba Raghav Das Medical College in eastern UP, along with party colleagues, expressed deep anguish over the death of 30 children. He said the probe ordered by the state government and the suspension of the college principal was just an ‘eyewash’ and demanded that the matter should be probed by a sitting judge of the SC.

The party also demanded the resignation of Health Minister Siddharth Nath Singh and health secretaries.

“They don’t have the right to remain in office,” Azad said.

Ex-CM Akhilesh Yadav also accused the authorities of covering up the incident. Demanding an unconditional apology from the CM, BSP chief Mayawati said those responsible should be jailed. (With PTI inputs)
