Clouds hold back for India to celebrate

Despite a 'western disturbance' hovering over the North and drizzle in the morning hours in the Capital, the weather gave a window of opportunity for India to showcase its military and cultural prowess, with US President Barack Obama, the guest of honour at the prestigious ceremony, and his wife Michelle Obama watching.

Delhi woke up to a cloudy and wet morning with poor visibility, which improved to a light drizzle when the Republic Day celebrations started on the Rajpath. As the event progressed, the rain stopped and visibility improved to make the celebrations brighter.

Meteorologists had predicted light drizzle in the Capital due to the western disturbance and cyclonic circulation over parts of south Rajasthan and neighbourhood. Moderate to good rainfall was predicted over parts of southeast Rajasthan along with areas in central and north Madhya Pradesh for the day.

For Tuesday, dense fog and cold weather conditions are forecast over isolated places in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Chandigarh.
