Chandigarh, Faridabad submit revised ‘Smart City’ plan

Chandigarh, Faridabad and Dharamsala have submitted revised ‘Smart City’ proposals to the Ministry of Urban Development.

The cities have been selected under the ‘Smart City Mission’ of the Centre.

The remaining cities that have submitted revised plans under the Fast Track Competition are Warangal in Telangana; Lucknow; New Town, Kolkata; Goa; Pasighat in Arunachal Pradesh; Raipur, Chattisgarh; Bhagalpur in Bihar, Shillong; Namchi in Sikkim; Port Blair; Diu; Oulgaret in Puducherry; Silvassa; Imphal; Ranchi, Agartala; Kohima; Kavaratti in Lakshadweep; and Dehradun, said an official of the Urban Development Ministry.

The revised proposals submitted by all the 23 cities, including 15 capitals, will be evaluated by May 15, and those meeting the benchmark set by the winning cities in the first round of the ‘Smart City Challenge’ will be announced for extending the Central assistance, the official said.

The Ministry of Urban Development had held a consultation workshop for the 23 cities and towns participating in the ‘Fast Track Competition’, besides holding several studio workshops, wherein respective ‘Smart City’ plans were read out to rectify, the official added.

The second round of the competition for the 97 cities included in the Smart City Mission had started on April 1. The cities need to submit revised proposals by June-end.
