New Delhi, April 24
The central government on Monday circulated a model law for the Agriculture Produce and Livestock Marketing (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2017 among states.
The act aims at a single national market in the country with one trader licence, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh said.
All states have agreed to implement the act.
Implementing the act will help in fulfilling the Prime Minister's dream of doubling farmers income by 2022, the minister said.
The central government also agreed to circulate the model APMC Act 2017, aimed at breaking monopolies and providing options to farmers.
The idea is to create competition and benefit consumers, officials said, adding that states could tweak the Act and create an independent marketing platform like E-NAM.
So far, no market in Punjab is connected to the Centre's E-NAM.
