The CBI today filed a charge-sheet against senior Congress leader and former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram, his son Karti Chidambaram and 12 others in the INX Media case.

The anti-corruption probe agency alleged that Chidambaram misused his office in giving FIPB (Foreign Investment Promotion Board) approval to INX Media. The charge-sheet was filed in the court of Special CBI Judge Ajay Kumar Kuhar, who will hear the matter on Monday.

Three FIPB officials,  Ajit Kumar Dung Dung, Rabindra Prasad and Prabodh Saxena, three junior officials of the Economic Affairs Department, private entities INX Media, INX News, Chess Management Services Pvt Ltd and Advantage Strategic Consulting Pvt Ltd, Peter Mukerjea and chartered accountant

S Bhaskararaman have been named as co-accused. Chidambaram is in Enforcement Directorate’s custody for money-laundering probe in the case.

It has been alleged that Indrani Mukerjea and her husband Peter Mukerjea, who owned INX Media met Chidambaram (when he was Finance Minister) in his North Block office in 2006. Chidambaram, according to statements recorded by the couple, guided them to his son Karti, suggesting that they must help him in his business. — TNS
