Police on Friday seized 25 rifles, 19 revolvers and over 4,000 live cartridges from a vehicle on the Mumbai-Agra National Highway and arrested three people in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off, police intercepted the car in the early hours on Friday at the Chandwad toll booth, about 70 km from here, Nashik Rural Superintendent of Police Sanjay Darade told PTI.

“As many as 25 rifles, 19 revolvers and 4,140 cartridges were seized from the vehicle,” Darade said.

Those arrested had been identified as Salman Khan and Badari Juman Badshah, both residents of Shivadi in Mumbai, and Nagesh Bansode, resident of Nashik, another police official said.

According to Darade, the three accused, who were coming from Malegoan in the district, visited a petrol pump on the way and got petrol filled at gun-point, following which the pump’s owner alerted the police.

“It is a sensitive case and we are probing from where the firearms were brought,” the SP said.

A case under relevant sections of the IPC had been registered, police said. PTI
