Jaitley flies to US for check-up

NEW DELHI: Finance Minister Arun Jaitley unexpectedly left for the US for a medical check-up, sources said. Jaitley, 66, who had a kidney transplant operation and follow-up check-ups at AIIMS last year, left for the US on Sunday night for a “regular medical check-up”, sources said, without indicating when he would return.

Two science channels launched

New Delhi: The Department of Science and Technology and public broadcaster Doordarshan on Tuesday launched two science channels - DD Science and India Science. DD Science is a one-hour slot on Doordarshan and will be telecast Monday to Saturday from 5 pm to 6 pm. India Science is an Internet-based channel, which will be available on any internet-enabled device and will offer live, scheduled play and video-on-demand services. PTI

150-km march for Gandhi’s birth anniv

Ahmedabad: A 150-km padyatra (foot march) will be organised in Gujarat's Bhavnagar district for a week starting Wednesday as part of the sesquicentennial birth anniversary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi. As many as 150 Gandhians will participate in the walk which will pass through ‘buniyadi shalas’ (schools founded on Gandhian ideology) and 150 programmes will be held en route. It will begin from Manar village and end at Sanosara village. PTI

Google doodle for Patna entrepreneur 

New Delhi: Search giant Google on Tuesday celebrated the legacy of Patna-born entrepreneur Sake Dean Mahomed by dedicating a special doodle to a man of many talents credited with opening the first Indian restaurant in Britain. Mahomed also became the first Indian to write and publish a book in English (The Travels of Dean Mahomet, 1794). PTI
