In the 2.13-minute solidarity video for the human rights watchdog Amnesty, Shah said those who demand rights are being locked up. “Artistes, actors, scholars, poets are all being stifled. Journalists too are being silenced,” he said. PTI

Centre gave Rs 300 cr for Statue of Unity 

New Delhi: The Central Government has provided Rs 300 crore for construction of the world's tallest statue, Statue of Unity, at Kevadiya in Narmada district of Gujarat, Parliament was informed on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated the statue to the nation on October 31 last year. The total cost of the statue is estimated at Rs 3,000 crore. PTI

First short course on outsourcing at IIT-KGP

Kolkata: IIT-Kharagpur is conducting a multi-disciplinary short course on outsourcing practices in India, the first of its kind in the country, on the advice of the Centre. The one-week course, run by the Department of Mining Engineering, includes deliberations on how outsourcing can be made ethical and within legally justified parameters. Such courses will be run from time to time through the year. The first batch has been drawn predominantly from the power and coal sectors. PTI
