Mumbai, December 2

The Maharashtra Government was reviewing the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said today.

“Yes, we will review the bullet train (project). Have I stayed the bullet train project like Aarey car shed? No, I haven’t,” Thackeray told reporters.

The CM added his government was in the process of reviewing all development works due to the severe debt burden faced by the state. “Maharashtra faces a debt burden of Rs 5 lakh crore. We are, therefore, looking at all development works and their cost.... We will decide what needs to be prioritised and whether some of these projects are really needed,” Thackeray told reporters. He added the government would soon come out with a white paper on the state of Maharashtra’s finances and that he would seek PM Narendra Modi’s help. — TNS
