However, the Congress suffered a major setback as the grand old party was only able to win 31 seats.

Apart from that, the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) has won seven seats, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has nine, and Asaduddin Owaisi-led All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) secured five wards in the Solapur Municipal Corporation.

Meanwhile, BJP leader Pankaja Munde has offered to resign after the party lost eight out of 10 seats in Parli, a stronghold of the BJP.

Similarly, Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam has also tendered his resignation following the party’s loss in the Mumbai civic polls.

In Thane Municipal Corporation, the Shiv Sena has won 77 while BJP has won 69 seats out of 131. The AIMIM opened its account in Thane by winning three seats.

Except Mumbai and Thane, BJP is leading at all remaining municipal corporations-namely Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Amravati, Akola and Solapur.
