Two unidentified men robbed a bank cashier and his aide of Rs 8 lakh while the money was being shifted to different branches in Rajasthan’s Kota district, police said on Wednesday.

Giyarsiram, the cashier of Baroda Rajasthan Regional Rural Bank’s Kansuwa branch, along with the bank’s contractual employee, Devprakash, was on his way to deposit the money at the bank’s Bhamasha Mandi branch on Tuesday afternoon, they said.

The two-wheeler-borne robbers, aged around 25, approached the bank employees--riding a motorcycle--from behind on Bhamasha Mandi overbridge in the Anantpura police station area and snatched the bag containing the cash from Devprakash who was riding pillion, they added.

Giyarsiram told the police that whenever the cash deposited at the Kansuwa branch crossed the Rs 5 lakh mark, it was sent to the Bhamasha Mandi branch. The robbers were most likely aware of this, police said.

Although, the identity of the robbers is yet to be ascertained, police have registered a case and initiated investigation.

“The accused have not been arrested and no clue regarding their identities has surfaced so far,” Sub Inspector Ramswaroop at the Anantpura police station said.

Police are also studying the CCTV footage of the area where the crime was committed, he added.

The attack comes at a time when the city police is on a high alert as Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje will arrive here to participate in yoga guru Ramdev’s ongoing three-day yoga camp on Thursday on the International Yoga Day. PTI
