In a shocking case of medical negligence, the head of a baby allegedly got separated from the body as the physician pulled the baby’s legs with excessive force during delivery at a government hospital in Ramgarh, Jaisalmer, earlier this week. The baby’s head remained inside the mother’s womb.

As the news went viral, the State Medical and Health Department put doctor Nikhil Sharma on awaiting posting order (APO) and suspended two nurses Amritlal and Jhujhar Singh for negligence.

In their alleged attempt to hide the case, Ramgarh doctors had referred the woman to Jaisalmer for further treatment and surgery, citing complications. Examination at the Jaisalmer hospital revealed that the head of the baby was still inside the mother’s womb, which was then taken out.

Victim’s husband Jalam Singh lodged an FIR with the Ramgarh police against the hospital staff for killing the newborn.

Dr Nikhil, however, claimed when the woman was brought to the hospital, the baby had already died and his legs were outside the uterus.
