The Assam Government is planning to transform Ambubachi Mela, an annual congregation at Kamakhya Temple here, to one of the major religious tourism attractions.

On the last day of the five-day mela, Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today paid obeisance to Goddess Kamakhya and sought her blessings for the development of the state.

He extended his gratitude to the lakhs of pilgrims for coming to Kamakhya Peeth from all over the country and abroad and making the mela, “one of the greatest religious congregations”, a success.

The CM said, “Assam is known for its hospitality and tradition of according highest respect to pilgrims and visitors since ages and this year’s Ambubachi Mela was not an exception. The state maintained the tradition on a high, embraced lakhs of pilgrims during the congregation.” He vowed to make the annual affair cleaner, greener and more pious and take more devotee-friendly steps in coming editions of the Ambubachi Mela.
