Army Chief in Assam, says will go after ultras

Army Chief General Dalbir Singh Suhag today reviewed the Army deployment in those areas of Assam where NDFB(S) militants killed over 70 people, and examined the blueprint for deployment of additional forces in the region.

The security forces intensified operations along the International Border with Bhutan even as calm prevailed in the violence-hit areas of the state today under strict surveillance of security forces.

The Army Chief arrived here this morning and reviewed the status of operations and various measures taken to improve the security scenario in the state. A defence spokesman said the Army Chief was briefed on the proactive actions undertaken by the Army along with different agencies to intensify operation against militant outfits. He also reviewed the deployment of 66 Army columns in the disturbed areas.

He directed his field commanders to enhance the intensity of operations against those responsible for the carnage and assured additional support for renewed focus on operations. General Suhag also undertook an aerial reconnaissance of strife-torn areas of the state along with officers leading the operations.

Taking note of the roadmap being planned by the Army jointly with the police forces, General Suhag directed troops to extend support to the state administration in bringing back normalcy and at the same time carry out relentless operations against the perpetrators of terror.
