Pune, December 24

Actor Sanjay Dutt on Wednesday walked out from the Yerwada Central Jail after being granted a 14-day furlough.

Dutt had applied for furlough which was granted by the police authorities yesterday.

The actor is serving a jail sentence in Yerwada Central Jail after being convicted under the Arms Act in 2013 in Mumbai bomb blast case. He has reportedly spent over 118 days out of jail, either on parole or furlough (temporary leave of absence) between May 2013 and May 2014.

He has already served 18 months of his five-year jail term.

Giving details, Additional Director General of Police (Prisons) Meeran Borvankar said, “We have released Sanjay Dutt on furlough of 14 days today at 9 AM. Furlough is a right of every prisoner. I do not know what reason Sanjay Dutt has given for furlough. When police report on his furlough application came, we released him today morning.”      When asked that how many other prisoners have applied for furlough in 2014, Borwankar said that she has to take details in this regard.

After repeated attempts, Yerwada Jail Superintendent Yogesh Desai could not be contacted.

Dutt can extend his furlough for next 14 days, Borvankar added.
