Jammu, January 17

Amid the ongoing political impasse, PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Friday met Jammu and Kashmir Governor NN Vohra apparently to discuss a way out, two days after his party turned down the National Conference’s (NC) offer of support.

Peoples Democratic Party’s chief spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said: “Sayeed met the Governor on Friday evening over dinner but I don’t know what transpired between the two.” Sources said the two leaders  discussed the government formation and the current political situation in the state during the two-hour dinner meeting. On January 13, NC working president Omar Abdullah had written to the Governor offering support to the PDP to form government and seeking consultations with his party before a final call was taken on "the future of the present Assembly and its viability" in the government formation.

However, the PDP rejected the offer on January 14 saying: “People have voted against the NC in the elections and with just 15 seats, they (NC) cannot decide on the government formation.”

To this, the NC had said the offer was limited to outside support and it had no intention to join the government.
