New Delhi, June 24

Congress Lok Sabha leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has called for an award for Indian Air Force pilot Abhinandan Varthaman, who was captured by Pakistan after a dogfight with India in February.

Chowdhury, who was speaking at the ongoing Parliament Session, also said that the officer’s moustache—which has since become somewhat of a fashion statement—to be “national moustache”. It’s unclear though if he meant this as a joke.

Pakistan’s military released Abhinandan Varthaman on March 1—60 hours after his capture.
