Ahmedabad, November 3

Even as the Ahmedabad University (AU) Registrar expressed ignorance over the reason for noted historian Ramchandra Guha reversing his decision to join its faculty, the ABVP has claimed credit for it to “spare the students from his bad influence.”

Guha, in a tweet on Thursday made public his decision against joining the AU “due to circumstances beyond my control”, had also scripted, “And may the spirit of Gandhi one day come alive once more in his native Gujarat.” His comment had surprised the academic world, but ABVP state general secretary Pravin Desai’s statement, calling him “anti-national”, indicates as to what prompted the author to reverse his decision of joining the AU faculty. — OC
