New Delhi, April 25

On the back foot over suicide of Gajendra Singh at AAP rally, the party-led Delhi government on Saturday announced to name a farmer compensation scheme after the Rajasthan farmer and also accepted the demands of his family — to give a job to Gajendra's kin and martyr status for him.

The decision came a day after senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh met the family of the farmer in Nangal Jhamarwada village in Rajasthan's Dausa district. Singh met his children, wife, father and other members.

According to Singh, Gajendra's family has demanded martyr's status for him and a government job to his kin.

As per to a senior officer, a delegation of AAP MLAs Rajesh Rishi, Naresh Balyan and Rajesh Gupta who met the family yesterday with Sanjay Singh today told family's demand to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Following which, Kejriwal called Gajendra's brother and accepted both the demands made by the family.

The Chief Minister promised to provide a job to any child of the family after he or she attains the age of 18.

The AAP government also announced to name rain-hit farmer compensation scheme after Gajendra.

According to officials, from next week, rain-hit farmers will get compensation which was announced by Kejriwal this month.

The AAP leader yesterday handed over a cheque of Rs 10 lakh as compensation to the farmer's family and also showed them a video clip in support of the party's claim that AAP leaders were not responsible for the incident. — PTI
