The Centre on Saturday night carried out a major bureaucratic reshuffle shifting Ajay Bhushan Pandey, Chief of Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), as the Revenue Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.

Pandey, a 1984 Maharashtra cadre IAS officer, will take the place of Hasmukh Adhia, who retires on November 30. An official order approved by the Cabinet Committee on Appointments said Pandey would hold additional charge as CEO of UIDAI as well as Chairman of the Goods and Services Tax network until further orders. Among the officers moved include Upma Chawdhry (Himachal-1983) as Secretary, Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, from Lal Bahadur National Academy of Administration and Punjab cadre Chhabilendra Rout as Secretary in the Department of Fertiliser on the retirement of Bharati Sihag of HP cadre on December 31.

In another significant move, Girish Murmu, Gujarat cadre officer, will be the next Expenditure Secretary on the retirement of AN Jha by the end of this year. —TNS

Mishra gets two-year tenure as ED Director

New Delhi: IRS officer Sanjay Kumar Mishra was appointed as the full-time chief of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) late on Saturday, a government order said. Mishra, a 1984-batch Indian Revenue Service officer of the Income Tax cadre, was appointed as the principal special director in the central probe agency on October 27 and was entrusted with the “additional” charge of ED Director for three months. An order issued by the PM Narendra Modi-headed ACC gave a two-year tenure to Mishra “from the date of assumption of the charge”. PTI
