Mustafa Dossa, who along with gangster Abu Salem and four others was found guilty in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, died at JJ Hospital this afternoon, police and hospital authorities said.

The special TADA court which heard the 1993 blasts case is in the process of pronouncing the sentence against Dossa, Salem and the others. The prosecution had sought the death penalty for Dossa for his role in organising a meeting of the bombers in Dubai before they carried out the bombings across Mumbai.

Dr TP Lahane, Dean, JJ Hospital, said Dossa was admitted to hospital at around 3 am after complaining of chest pain. He was already suffering from high fever and hypertension when he was brought, Lahane added.

A three-member panel of doctors was supervising the autopsy. Dossa had earlier applied before the TADA court to undergo a bypass surgery for his heart ailment, sources said. Dossa is accused of being one of the masterminds of the blasts conspiracy, arranging for finances and helping finance the training of the bombers in Pakistan. Dossa was arrested in 2003 well after the trial in the 1993 blasts was underway.
