11 killed in road mishap in Jodhpur

At least eleven persons were on Sunday killed and 14 others were injured when the vehicle they were travelling in collided head-on with a truck on Jodhpur bypass, the police said.

The occupants of the mini-truck were en route to Bolunda village in Pali district to cast their votes in the ongoing panchayat polls.

The injured have been admitted to MDM Hospital in Jodhpur, where the condition of seven is stated to be serious.

According to DCP (East) Rahul Jain, 25 persons, including the driver of the mini-truck, had set off from Chandhan in Jaisalmer early this morning for their Bolunda village on the Jodhpur-Jaipur highway.

“Their vehicle collided head-on with a truck on Jodhpur bypass under Banar police station,” he said.

Eleven of them died on the spot, while the remaining injured persons were rushed to the hospital.

All of them were farm labourers working in Chandhan village in Jaisalmer district and had left by the mini-truck for their village to cast their votes.

District Collector (Pali) Rohit Gupta has announced an ex-gratia relief from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for the victims.

“It is very unfortunate that so many persons died in the accident. We have announced the ex-gratia relief of Rs 50,000 for each of the deceased,” said Gupta. — PTI
