Jaipur, June 6

At least 10 students affiliated to NSUI injured when police resorted to lathicharge to disperse protesters outside Rajasthan University’s main campus in Jaipur on Monday.

The NSUI activists were protesting against alleged saffronisation of education and change in question paper pattern in examination by the BJP government.

One of the seriously injured students Deepak Dhindoria was admitted to the trauma ward of SMS hospital, while others were discharged after first-aid.

The police have arrested 13 students, including NSUI president Satveer Choudhary and a girl, under Section 151 of the IPC.

Pradesh Congress Committee vice-president Archana Sharma condemned the police “highhandedness” and alleged that the BJP government wanted to crush students’ silent protest. She accused the state government of saffronising higher education by deleting references pertaining to former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and even Mahatma Gandhi from history books.

“The ideology of BJP and RSS was being thrust on students,” she said. Nearly 100 students were part of the NSUI-led protest against MA II-semester paper which had questions related to BJP’s governance and its saffron ideology.
