10 killed in bus-truck collision in Telangana

HYDERABAD:At least 10 people were killed and 15 others were injured in bus-truck collision in Telangana's Nalgonda district on Wednesday, police said.

At least 10 people were killed and 15 others were injured in bus-truck collision in Telangana's Nalgonda district on Wednesday, police said.

The incident occurred near Indirapalanagar in Ramannapet mandal of Nalgonda district, about 100 km from here.

The dead include four women and a child. The injured were shifted to a private hospital at Narketpally near here. The condition of a few of them is stated to be critical.

The bus belonging to state-owned Telangana Road Transport Corporation was on its way from Bhongir to Nalgonda when it overturned after a head-on collision with the speeding truck coming from opposite direction around 4pm.

The bus was badly damaged due to the impact of the collision. Passengers were crushed between the seats.

Heart-rending scenes were witnessed at the scene with blood spilled all over.

Senior police and civil officials reached the spot and launched rescue operations. The bus driver was among those killed.

Home Minister N Narasimha Reddy, Transport Minister Mahender Reddy and Energy Minister Jagdish Reddy, who hails from the same district, rushed to the site on the direction of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and supervised the rescue and relief operations.

Speaking in the state assembly, the chief minister expressed shock over the incident. He conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

The government has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of those killed. Road Transport Corporation will pay another Rs 1 lakh each. — IANS
