Ahmedabad, April 23

PM Narendra Modi cast his vote at a polling booth in Nishan High School in Ranip, Ahmedabad, in the Gandhinagar constituency from where his closest-aide and BJP chief Amit Shah is contesting.

Modi, however, sparked a row by holding more than a km-long roadshow while going and returning from the polling booth. The police had erected barricades on the two sides of the road Modi was due to take from Gandhinagar to Ranip. After travelling for some distance, Modi climbed on an open jeep and reached the polling booth waiving to people gathered on both sides of the road.

The Congress took objections to his “roadshow” and said Modi was deliberately flouting the model code by organising such roadshows around polling booths. It moved the EC, demanding that a campaign ban of two-three days be imposed on him for being an “uncaring offender”. — OC/PTI
