‘Corrupt’ BJP worker in jail after CM Yogi intervenes

A woman BJP worker from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s constituency of Gorakhpur has been sent to jail after his intervention for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 50,000 to get a theft accused released.

Police sources said Sarita Singh, an office bearer of Gorakhpur unit of the BJP Mahila Morcha, had allegedly promised a woman to get her son out of jail for Rs 50,000.

Even though the woman, Rita Pandey, allegedly paid the BJP leader, but her son Harshit, who had been on arrested on October 13 in a mobile phone theft case, was not released. After that the woman and her relatives’ efforts to get Sarita to return the money went in vain.

On Friday, the woman’s relatives approached a neighbour, Prabha Pandey, who took them to the CM who was present in Gorakhpur. After hearing the complaint, Yogi summoned SSP Satyarth Aniruddha Pankaj and directed him to take action. — TNS
