Ludhiana, September 15

The Jamalpur police have arrested the youth who raped a six-year-old girl after abducting her from her house at Bhamian Kalan, within a few hours of the crime. The accused has been identified as Bablu Kumar (22), a resident of Ashok Vihar, Tajpur Road.

Additional DCP Ajinder Singh, ACP Vaibhav Sehgal and Jamalpur SHO Harjinder Singh addressed a press conference on the matter.

Harjinder said the victim was a daughter of a migrant labourer. Around 2.30 am on Saturday when the victim’s father woke up, he was shocked to find his daughter, who was sleeping by him, missing. He, along with the local residents, started searching for the girl. They found her lying on the road 400 metre from the house. She was profusely bleeding from her private part.

“We had a clue that Bablu had raped the girl. We conducted raids in the area and he was nabbed near Samrala Chowk. Bablu was trying to flee to his native village in Uttar Pradesh. He has confessed to the crime.

“Bablu was reportedly under the influence of some drug when he abducted the girl, took her to an isolated place and raped her. When the girl fell unconscious, he fled the scene leaving the girl on the road,” said the SHO.
