Workshop on response to chemical hazards and emergencies at DMCH

A three-day workshop under the title ‘Advanced Management and Response to Chemical Hazards and Emergencies’ was held at the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital ( DMCH).

The Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American College of Medical Toxicology (ACMT), Emory University, and CRDF Global, in association with the Department of Medicine, organised the workshop.

Organising secretary Dr Rajesh Mahajan said the workshop was organised to make participants aware about the latest advancements in the field of toxicology and response to chemical emergency in the industrial city of Punjab.

On the first day of the workshop, scientific lectures and elaborative discussion were organised on managing various cases of chemical injuries and adopting best treatment to save patients from such injuries, and also to prepare the hospital for the management of such injuries.

The conference was inaugurated by Principal Dr Sandeep Puri, Vice-Principal Dr GS Wander, along with Dr Dinesh Gupta (Professor and Head of Medicine) and Dr Rajesh Mahajan (Professor of Medicne). In his message, Dr Puri said, “Emergency medicine is a broad field and expanding at a very fast pace. A lot of advancements are taking place these days to improve the functioning of the emergence medicine and the Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) don’t want to lag behind in improving its emergency services and facilities.”

Many internationally-acclaimed speakers delivered elaborate lectures on various topics, including chemical emergencies, toxic gases cyanide and fumigants, chemicals affecting the central nervous system and others.
