A workshop on ‘career counselling’ was organised at Kamla Lohtia SD College, to guide students, who have passed Class XII, but are unable to decide between future academic options.

Five faculty groups were formed, namely commerce, arts, economics, management and computer science, keeping in view the capabilities, interests, aptitude and inclination of students.

Subject experts familiarised the students with various career options, relevant course contents and the admission procedure, along with the prospects of placement.

A large number of students attended the workshop. A majority of them evinced interest in becoming chartered accountants, IT professionals and businessmen. Some expressed their wish to become teachers, system analysts, investment consultants, statisticians and accounting experts.

Mohammad Saleem, head of postgraduate department of economics; and Prof Deepak Dhingra deliberated upon the issue of ‘brain drain’ and opined that through meticulous direction at an appropriate time and availability of proper educational facilities, this exodus of youth from the country could be prevented.

A visual presentation was given by Dr Karun Kant Uppal and Dr Monalisa to familiarise students with various academic streams and courses available after Class XII.

Principal Bimlesh Kumar Gupta focussed upon the issue of skill gaps which retarded the employment prospects. She suggested synchronisation between job requirements and actual skills of workforce in primary and tertiary sector.
