Ludhiana, November 20

Women thieves decamped with garments worth Rs 20 lakh from a shop situated near a gurdwara in the city’s posh Model Town area in the wee hours of today. They were captured on CCTV cameras. The police suspect the women to be rag pickers.

Over a dozen women broke the main shutter and put garments in five bags. Two women entered the shop while 10 of them waited outside.

The theft was committed at 5 am. Despite devotees visiting the nearby gurdwara in large numbers at that time, the women managed to commit the theft.

The shop owner, Jaspal Singh, said he locked the shop on Tuesday night. As shown in CCTV footage, within a few minutes, the women thieves took away five bags filled with garments worth about Rs 20 lakh.

Model Town SHO Pawan Kumar said the faces of the women were quite clear in CCTV footage and they would be nabbed soon.
