One person in a family died due to dengue while all others are still undergoing treatment at the local hospital. The Bank Street, where the family resides, has other people, who too are suffering from dengue, and admitted to various hospitals

in the town.

Kusum Lata (55), who was admitted to Dashmesh Hospital, and later shifted to Rajwant Hospital in the town, was suffering from dengue for the past 15 days.

As her condition worsened and platelet count reduced to a deplorable extent, she was shifted to Apollo Hospital, where she breathed her last.

Her husband Subhash Chand Garg, son Sandeep Garg and daughter-in-law Tanu Garg are also undergoing treatment for dengue. As there was no one at home to cremate the body, all the three had to get themselves discharged to perform

the last rites of the deceased and were re-admitted thereafter.

“There is a gutter in front of our home, which is seldom cleaned. Moreover, fogging which is of utmost necessity in the present situation is not being done on regular basis. When there is no fogging, how can you expect the mosquito count to decrease?” rued Sandeep Garg, the son of the deceased.

“Only we know what we have suffered for the past so many days. My mother is no more while me, my father and my wife are still in the hospital, but why should the council be bothered of what residents of the town are undergoing?” he added.

Sanjeev Bansal of the Bank Street, whose mother has tested positive for dengue said, “My mother is in serious condition at DMC Hospital and uncle has been admitted to a hospital in Jalandhar due to the similar fever.”

“Some people residing in our street have fallen ill due to dengue, but they have recovered with the passage of time,” he added.

He alleged that the water supply of their area was faulty. “Drinking water is not fit for consumption. The council has been apprised of the problem several times but to no avail,” he said.

Dr Gursharan Kaur of Sidhu Hospital said as many as 150 to 200 patients suffering from dengue were admitted to their hospital in the past two months.

“Utter lack of cleanliness and practically no fogging in the town is the main cause of the spread of dengue,” she said.

Dr Rajwant Singh of Rajwant Hospital said they had 15 to 20 patients admitted to the hospital, who had tested positive for dengue.

“Doraha is suffering due to the negligence of the Municipal Council, which has decided not to act be it sewer water accumulation in streets, rise in dengue cases or a matter as serious as dengue deaths,” shared a resident.

When contacted, Executive Officer, Doraha, Rajneesh Sood, said, “Fogging is being done in different areas in the town on different days.”
