Special Task Force of the Ludhiana police has nabbed four persons, including a woman, with 3.13 kg of heroin in separate cases.

In charge of STF Harbans Singh said acting on a tip-off, a naka was set up near Shimlapuri where the police signalled a car to stop. The police recovered 1.530 kg of heroin along with a digital weighing machine from the car. The occupants of the car, identified as Kamal Kumar (25) of Lohara Colony, Gurbinder Singh Vicky (19) of Ferozepur and Suneha, alias Bandhna (34), of Azad Nagar have been arrested.

Harbans said during preliminary questioning, Kamal, who is an electrician by profession, said he was already facing a smuggling case registered at Khanna. He recently came out of jail on bail and continued with the notorious trade. Vicky said he ran a tea stall along with his father, and he started smuggling drugs to become rich in a short span of time. The woman said she was a housemaker and started smuggling drugs about five years ago. Their car has been impounded.

Drug network running from Central Jail busted

The STF nabbed Sukhbir Singh Sukha (25) of Preet Nagar with 1.6 kg of heroin. He was in touch with one of his aides lodged in Central Jail here, Malkit Singh Micky of Dugri. Micky used a mobile phone inside the jail to coordinate with Sukha in supplying heroin, said Inspector Harbans Singh. Micky contacted the Delhi-based smugglers over the phone from the jail, following which he sent Sukha to collect the drug and deliver it to their clients in Ludhiana.
