Ludhiana, May 21

A woman bludgeoned her husband to death at Lal Bagh Colony, Rajguru Nagar, here. The other members of the family were sleeping when the incident took place in the wee hours of Monday.

The deceased has been identified as Surinder Kumar (35), a labourer, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh. On a statement of his father, Shiv Lal, a case under Section 302 has been registered against the deceased’s wife, Nanakki (30). The woman, also a labourer, has been arrested.

After ‘committing’ the crime, the woman left home. However, some persons dropped her back at home. Later, the family learnt about Surinder’s murder.

According to information, the couple got married nearly 13 years ago. They have three children, including two sons. They had strained relations as Surinder would often ‘beat’ his wife in an inebriated condition, according to the police.

The deceased’s father claimed that he, along with his wife and grandchildren, was sleeping in the open while Surinder and his wife were sleeping inside the room. Around 2:30 am, some people dropped Nanakki back at home as she had left home after the incident, he stated.

The woman then started crying. When Shiv Lal went inside the room, he found Surinder’s body lying in a pool of blood.

The police were informed in the morning. The police arrested the woman and sent the body for autopsy.

Sarabha Nagar SHO Brij Mohan said the couple entered into a scuffle on Sunday night. “The arrested woman has confessed to her crime. She claimed that her husband was beating her in an inebriated condition and she attacked him in retaliation. The woman hit Surinder on the head and face with a rod,” he said.
