Ludhiana, May 22

An eight member team of the Local Bodies Department collected maps of the entire city from the building branch of the Municipal Corporation (MC)today. The team also interviewed clerks of the civic body for recruiting them for the delimitation process, which is likely to start in a day or two.

According to officials of the Municipal Corporation with the new delimitation in the district the ward count is likely to go up from 75 to 90.

To monitor the work, zone level nodal officers have been appointed, while survey for the purpose has been entrusted to an agency. Giving this information, Municipal Corporation Commissioner Jaskiran Singh and Joint Commissioner Kulpreet Singh said, “The city is currently divided into 75 wards. Considering the population and its growing area this number is proposed to be around 90.”

The MC Commissioner said a meeting was held recently to discuss the new wards. Four nodal officers, including Pradeep Kumar, executive engineer for Zone A, Praveen Singla, executive engineer for Zone B, Karamjit Singh, executive engineer for Zone-C and Teerath Bansal, executive engineer for Zone-D, had been appointed, he added.

He said for the purpose of survey an agency had also been roped in. More than 300 officers and employees of the agency would go from door to door in the field to identify the area and collect the required data, including the population, he added. He said these officials would be issued regular identification cards by the agency concerned, which could be checked if required.

He appealed to the people to cooperate with the civic body and the agency in the task. He said residents should provide correct facts for whatever information was sought. “If any citizen needs any information or has complaint, he or she can contact the nodal officer of the area concerned. Besides, Municipal Corporation Town Planner and Senior Town Planner office can also be approached,” he added.
