Vipanjeet breaks 200 m record

LUDHIANA: Vipanjeet Kaur, a student of the Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana, broke 200 meter record in the Panjab University inter-college athletics meet held at the PU campus.

Vipanjeet Kaur, a student of the Guru Nanak Girls College, Model Town, Ludhiana, broke 200 meter record in the Panjab University inter-college athletics meet held at the PU campus.

Vipanjeet clocked 25.17 seconds to establish a new record in 200-meter race. The previous record of 25.24 seconds was set by Maninder Kaur in 2000. Vipanjeet, who studies in MA first year (history), has been receving coaching from Sanjeev Sharma.

She has a number of feats to her credit as she won medals in different athletics championships.

Vipanjeet won a silver medal in 200-meter race in the Open Punjab State Athletics championship held at Sangrur. She bagged a bronze medal in the Punjab State Women’s Sports Festival, besides being declared a best athlete of the PU in 2016-17 wherein she won four gold medals.

The college principal Dr Charanjit Kaur Mahal lauded Vipanjeet on her outstanding performance in the athletics meet.

She also appreciated efforts of Dr Jaswinder Kaur, Head of Department, Physical Education Department, and her coach Sanjeev Sharma.

Dr Mahal also wished goodluck to Vipanjeet in the upcoming 79th All India Inter-University Athletics championship scheduled to be held at the Mangalore University, Karnataka, from November 25 to 29 this year.

Ravinder Singh, District Sports Officer, Ludhiana, congratulated Sanjeev Sharma for his relentless efforts.
