Following the directions of National Green Tribunal (NGT), the District Administration, has initiated a district-level-special campaign to create awareness against stubble burning.

Under this campaign, awareness vans were flagged off by Pardeep Kumar Agrawal, Deputy Commissioner, from the District Administrative Complex today.

While talking to media persons, Agrawal said directions have been issued to the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) officials and to other departments to make aware the masses during this campaign. Burning of stubble has been notified as illegal by National Green Tribunal.

Farmers who will not follow the directions will have to face the music. They would be fined up to Rs 25,000.

The PPCB executive engineers G S Gill and Avtar Singh informed that four vans have been flagged off, which will make people aware about this illegal practice. The ADC (G), Iqbal Singh Sandhu, and other officials were also present on the occasion. — TNS
