Two held for duping doc

The city police have reportedly arrested two persons for duping a noted orthopaedic doctor of Rs 1.5 crore for getting his son enrolled in the Master of Surgery (MS) course in the Christian Medical College and Hospital (CMCH).

A day after the PAU police registered a case of fraud against NS Sehgal, a resident of Sector 71 Mohali and Ankur Sagar Khatri of New Delhi for duping Dr Mohd Yameen Head of the Department (HOD of orthopaedic), the police team led by Surinder Chopra, SHO, PAU police station, today conducted raids in Delhi and other places to arrest both accused.

However, the police was reluctant to reveal the details.

Rajinder Singh, ASI, PAU station, said: “The SHO conducted raid in Delhi and reportedly arrested two persons. I cannot reveal their names yet. The team is returning from Delhi.” 

‘Admission process transparent’

Meanwhile, AB Thomas, Director, CMC Hospital raised strong objection after the name of CMC Hospital figured in the cash for medical seat case. Thomas said: “It was wrongly reported in the papers that the money was taken by the persons for admission to the CMC. 

There is no role of agents in the admission process. Our admission process is totally transparent and online. Ask Dr Yameen his son was taking admission in some other college.”

On the other hand, Dr Yamern in his complaint said he contacted the agent over phone after reading a newspaper advertisement in which they claimed that reserved seats were available in CMCH in the management quota.

Dr Yameen wanted to get his son Haroon Yameen enrolled in MS at CMCH in April 2015.

The accused assured a seat to Dr Yameen after he made a payment of Rs 1.5 crore. After receiving the money, the accused started dithering. In August, Dr Yameen asked the accused about the status of his son’s admission and the duo reportedly showed him a letter claiming that it was from the CMCH.

The accused did not handover the letter and rather asked him to deposit the fee in CMCH.

Dr Yameen was in for shock when the hospital authorities told him that there was no admission with the name of Haroon in the MS course.
