Two booked for issuing threats

Ludhiana: A marital dispute between Manjit Singh, a resident of Gobindgarh village, under the Raikot police station, and his wife took a nasty turn when his father-in-law Chhota Singh and brother-in-law Jagsir Singh, both residents of Sehbazpura village, came to his house on Saturday and vandalised household items in a bid to intimidate him.

Ludhiana: A marital dispute between Manjit Singh, a resident of Gobindgarh village, under the Raikot police station, and his wife took a nasty turn when his father-in-law Chhota Singh and brother-in-law Jagsir Singh, both residents of Sehbazpura village, came to his house on Saturday and vandalised household items in a bid to intimidate him. According to Manjit, Jagsir fired into the air with his 12 bore gun to create panic in the area. After preliminary investigation the Raikot Sadar police have registered a case under Sections 452, 336 and 427, IPC, and Sections 25, 27, 34 and 59, Arms Act. Chhota Singh has been arrested while Jagsir is at large. TNS

Minor girl kidnapped

Ludhiana: Balwinder Singh, a resident of Jagraon, lodged a complaint with the Jagraon city police that his 17-year-old daughter was missing from home since the morning of August 15. He alleged that Karamjit Singh, alias Karmu, of Akhara village, near Jagraon, had abducted his daughter after luring her for marriage. The police have registered a case under Sections 363 and 366-A, IPC, and Section 8, POCSO Act. TNS

10-year-old boy goes missing

Ludhiana: Mahesh (10), a resident of Ghumar Mandi, is reported to have gone missing under mysterious circumstances since Sunday. In a complaint lodged with the police Division No. 8 boy’s uncle Sandeep Kumar stated that his nephew had gone to play in an adjoining park on Sunday evening, but did not return home. He alleged that some unknown person might have kidnapped him or confined him at some place for vested interests. TNS

Businessman commits suicide

Ludhiana: Anil Kumar (46), a resident of New Janta Nagar, committed suicide at his office in Kochhar Market, New Model Town, by hanging himself. Harshat Chopra, son of the deceased, told the police that his father was being harassed by some persons to whom he had lent money. The borrowers were not returning money and harassing Anil, which forced him to take the extreme step. The police have registered a case of abetment to suicide against three persons identified as Puneet Dhillon, Ravi Arora and Ajay Arora under Section 306 of the IPC. No arrests have been made so far. Flood alert for Health Dept

Ludhiana: The Health Department has been alerted and asked to stock up necessary medicines in case of any emergency flood situation. Director, Health and Family Welfare Department, has issued an advisory to all civil hospitals and medical colleges, asking them to keep the duties of the staff in rotation and ensure that blood of all groups is available in the blood bank. Hospitals have been asked to keep their ambulances ready and be in co-ordination with the head office. Medical and rapid response teams have been formed by the Health Department and specialist doctors have been asked not to leave the station. TNS

50 govt schools remain closed

Ludhiana: Due to incessant rain and flood-like situation around Sutlej River, nearly fifty government schools remained closed on Monday. Since rainwater has accumulated in schools to a large extent, a holiday was declared and it is expected that schools will remain closed tomorrow as well. Schools in Maachiwara and Mangat I, II block remained closed on Monday. “Schools are most probably going to remain shut for Tuesday as well,” he said. TNS
