The victims were going towards Morinda from Budhewal. When they reached near Ranwan village on the Ludhiana-Chandigarh road, an SUV hit their motorcycle from behind. Passers-by rushed them to the local Civil Hospital where they were declared brought dead.

The investigation officer, ASI Piara Singh, said they had registered a case under Section 304-A and 279 of the IPC against the Fortuner driver, identified as Sanjeev Kumar of Rahimabad village, who had sped away after the accident.
