Truck driver, helper killed in accident

A truck driver and his helper were killed in an accident near the Khalsa filling station here on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Amit Kumar (34), a resident of UP, and his helper, Monu.

The truck carrying sugar from Shahjahanpur in UP was going to Ludhiana. When it reached Khanna, it was rammed by a vehicle from behind. The truck cabin was badly damaged and both the driver and the helper were taken out from it with difficulty.

Gurmeet Singh Bhattian, member of the Dharam Arth Sewa Society, who reached the spot along with volunteers, informed the police. He said Monu died on the spot. The injured driver was rushed to the local Civil Hospital where the doctors referred him to the DMCH, Ludhiana. But he died on the way.

The police have registered a case and they are checking the CCTV footage to identify the vehicle that rammed the truck from behind. The bodies were handed over to the guardians after post-mortem.
