Ludhiana, February 9

The owner of a travel and immigration firm has allegedly duped two residents of Rs 60 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad. He has been identified as Jatinderpal Singh of I Block, BRS Nagar. He owns Euro Wise Immigration, SBS Nagar.

The complainant, Talvir Singh of Baniyar village, Hoshiarpur, told the police that he saw an advertisement in a newspaper in which the travel firm had promised that it could arrange a visa of Canada. Talvir, along with his friend, met the agent.

The agent demanded Rs 30 lakh per person for arranging a visa of Canada. They gave the agent Rs 60 lakh on separate dates.

“The agent first got them a visa of Thailand and then of Cambodia, but he failed to arrange a visa of Canada. I was dropped in Cambodia by one Ashok Kumar. We later also asked the agent to arrange a visa of Canada, but he started making hollow promises. He also refused to return our money,” the complainant alleged.

The investigating officer, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sunil Kumar, said a case of fraud under Section 420 of the IPC and under 24 of the Immigration Act had been registered against the suspect and a raid would be conducted to nab him.
