Ludhiana: A one-day training programme on “Seed production of field and vegetable crops” was organised by office of the Director (Seeds), Punjab Agricultural University at University Seed Farm, Naraingarh, Fatehgarh Sahib on February 20. About 100 farmers/ seed producers who are engaged in or tend to engage in seed production participated in this training programme and benefitted from the expert lectures organised on this occasion.

TS Dhillon, Associate Director (seeds) was the chief guest and exhorted the farmers to adopt new technologies to produce quality seed. He emphasised on the importance of quality seed, as the challenge of meeting the food and nutritional security for ever growing population could be met by using quality seed. He said purity, quality and germination of seed are the main parameters responsible for good yield for a particular crop.

Kharif workshop ends 

A two-day “Research and Extension Specialists Workshop” organised by the Directorate of Extension Education concluded at Punjab Agricultural University on Thursday. The two-day event saw the participation of officers from the State Department of Agriculture, scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendras and Farm Advisory Service Centres; and deans, directors and faculty from PAU.  Deliberations were held in four sessions spread through two days, on topics ranging from climate change, insect-pest and disease management, nutrition management, credit planning, agro forestry, besides discussions on the recommendations of Kharif crop varieties. Dr JS Bains, Director of Agriculture, Punjab along with senior PAU scientists paid visit to the experiment areas of the university.— TNS
